LennyPreschool Baby Carrier Guide

The LennyPreschool is LennyLamb’s carrier built specifically for bigger kids. It is made from woven wrap fabric, fits from about 1 year to 5–6 years (up to 30 kg / 66 lbs), and has a taller, wider panel than the infant-to-toddler carriers in the lineup. This guide covers who it suits, sizing, how to put it on, care, and how it compares to the rest of the LennyLamb range.

Who the LennyPreschool Is For

The LennyPreschool is a good fit if you want:

  • A carrier that fits bigger kids. The panel is taller and wider than any infant-to-toddler carrier, supporting children comfortably from about 1 year all the way up to 5 or 6 years old and 30 kg.
  • To keep babywearing past toddlerhood. Many parents find their toddler outgrows an infant carrier around 2–3 years but still wants to be carried. The LennyPreschool bridges that gap.
  • Back carries with a bigger child. A taller panel keeps a preschooler secure and well-supported on your back during hikes, travel, or long days out.
  • Woven wrap fabric in a buckle carrier. Like all LennyLamb carriers, it is sewn from the same jacquard, herringbone, tessera, and broken-twill fabrics as their woven wraps, in dozens of designs and blends.

If your child is under 1 year or smaller than EU size 86, start with the LennyUpgrade PRO or the LennyLight instead — both fit from birth to about 36 months.

Key Features

Taller, wider panel

The LennyPreschool panel adjusts from about 38–51 cm in height, which is significantly taller than the infant-to-toddler carriers. This means it supports your child’s back from seat to shoulders even as they grow, keeping them in an ergonomic position through the preschool years.

Sturdy waist belt

The waist belt on the LennyPreschool is slightly sturdier and more structured than the belts on the LennyLight and LennyUpgrade. This helps distribute the weight of a heavier child across your hips and lower back.

Removable hood

A coordinating hood is included and attaches with snaps. It supports your child’s head during naps, shades them from the sun, and provides privacy during quiet moments. It detaches completely when you don’t need it.

Waist belt pocket

A pocket with a magnetic closure sits on the waist belt. It fits a phone, keys, and other small essentials so you can keep your hands free.

Adjustable panel

The panel adjusts in both height and width at the base, so you can dial in a proper seat from knee to knee as your child grows. The height adjustment uses strap tightening on a buckle for easy one-hand changes.

Sizing and Fit

The LennyPreschool comes in a single size that adjusts to fit both parent and child:

  • For the wearer: the waist belt fits 64–142 cm (about 25–56 in) and the shoulder straps adjust from 34–114 cm (about 13–45 in), so it works for a wide range of body types and can be shared between caregivers.
  • For your child: it fits from EU clothing size 86 (about 1 year) up to size 122 (about 5–6 years), with a maximum weight of 30 kg (about 66 lbs).

Check for the M-position: knees higher than bottom, fabric supporting them from knee to knee, and a gently rounded back. Older children may sit in more of a spread-squat than the deep M seen with babies — that’s normal and still ergonomic as long as the panel reaches to the backs of the knees.

How to Use the LennyPreschool

Before every carry, run through the T.I.C.K.S. checklist: Tight, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss, Keep chin off the chest, and Supported back.

Most parents use the LennyPreschool primarily for back carries. A back carry keeps a heavier child’s weight closer to your center of gravity and is more comfortable for longer outings. Front carries (tummy to tummy) also work well for shorter carries or when your child needs comfort.

Caring for Your LennyPreschool

  • Machine wash at 30–40 °C (86–104 °F) on a gentle cycle with all buckles fastened.
  • Remove the hood before washing.
  • Skip the fabric softener.
  • Hang to dry when you can, to protect the fabric and hardware.
  • Always check the care label first. Blends with wool, silk, or cashmere need a cooler wash and should never go in the dryer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age is the LennyPreschool for?

The LennyPreschool fits children from about 1 year (EU clothing size 86) to about 5–6 years (EU size 122), with a maximum weight of 30 kg (66 lbs). It picks up where infant-to-toddler carriers like the LennyUpgrade PRO and LennyLight leave off.

Can I use the LennyPreschool from birth?

No. The LennyPreschool is designed for bigger children starting at about 1 year old. For newborns, use the LennyUpgrade PRO or LennyLight, both of which fit from 3.2 kg with no insert.

When should I switch from my infant carrier to the LennyPreschool?

Most children are ready for the LennyPreschool around 1–2 years old, or when they reach EU clothing size 86. If your child is still comfortable in their infant carrier, there’s no rush — the LennyUpgrade PRO and LennyLight fit up to about 36 months. Once your child outgrows the panel height or weight limit of the smaller carrier, it’s time to move up.

Can I front carry in the LennyPreschool?

Yes, the LennyPreschool supports front carries (tummy to tummy) and back carries. Most parents prefer back carries with a bigger child because it keeps the weight closer to your center of gravity and is more comfortable for longer outings.

What’s the difference between the LennyPreschool and the LennyUpgrade PRO?

The LennyPreschool is for bigger children (1–5 years, up to 30 kg) and has a taller, wider panel. The LennyUpgrade PRO is for younger children (0–36 months), has more adjustment points, lumbar support, and a wider waist belt range. If you need one carrier from birth to toddlerhood, go with the PRO. If your child has outgrown their infant carrier, the LennyPreschool is the next step.

Does a hood come with the LennyPreschool?

Yes. Every LennyPreschool includes a coordinating removable hood for head support, sun shade, and wind protection.

Will the LennyPreschool fit plus-size or petite parents?

The waist belt adjusts from 64–142 cm (about 25–56 in) and the shoulder straps from 34–114 cm (about 13–45 in), which covers a wide range of body types. Reach out with your measurements if you’re not sure.

Is the LennyPreschool safety certified?

Yes. It is certified to ASTM F2236-24 and PD CEN/TR 16512:2015 and is recognized as “hip healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

Can I use it facing outward?

No. The LennyPreschool supports front (tummy to tummy) and back carries only. LennyLamb does not recommend outward-facing carries because they don’t support the ergonomic M-position needed for healthy hip development.

How do I wash my LennyPreschool?

Remove the hood, fasten all buckles, and machine wash at 30–40 °C on a gentle cycle. Skip the fabric softener and hang to dry. Check the care label first — wool, silk, and cashmere blends need a cooler wash.
