FAQ's | Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a meh dai and a half buckle baby carrier?

A meh dai (mei tai) has four long fabric straps — two tie around your waist, two go over your shoulders. No buckles anywhere, fully adjustable to any body size. A half buckle baby carrier uses a buckle at the waist for faster on/off while the shoulder straps still tie like a meh dai. Both use long wrap-style straps, which is what gives them more carry positions and a softer feel than a standard structured carrier.

Can the Girasol WrapMySol function as both a meh dai and a half buckle?

Yes — that's the whole point. The WrapMySol has an interchangeable waistband. The tie waist version functions as a meh dai; swap in the buckle hip belt and it becomes a half buckle baby carrier. The panel, straps, and all three fit adjustments stay exactly the same — only the waistband changes. You can buy one or both and switch any time.

Can I use the WrapMySol with a newborn?

Yes, from birth. Three adjustments make this work together: the neckline cinch pull string wraps the fabric around baby's head and neck for full support without folding or stuffing; the upper tunnel shortens the panel height for a smaller baby; and the velcro seat width narrows to create the M-position seat newborns need. No infant insert required.

What is the M-position and why does it matter?

The M-position means your baby's knees sit higher than their bottom in a natural frog-leg spread. It's the ergonomic standard recommended for all baby carriers because it supports healthy hip socket development, especially during the first year of life. All three WrapMySol fit adjustments work together to maintain the M-position from newborn through toddler.

What age and weight does the WrapMySol fit?

Newborn through toddler — roughly 7 lbs to 40 lbs, newborn through size 3T. The three independent adjustment systems (neckline cinch, double-tunnel panel height, velcro seat width) let it properly fit a tiny newborn and a heavy toddler without compromising the ergonomic fit at either end.

How does the double-tunnel panel height system work?

The waistband threads through one of two fabric tunnels sewn into the body panel. The upper tunnel shortens the panel for newborns and smaller babies; the lower tunnel lengthens it for bigger babies and toddlers. No tools, no hardware — just re-thread the waistband and the panel height changes. This is what makes the carrier genuinely grow with your child.

What carry positions can I do in the WrapMySol?

A lot more than a standard structured carrier. Front carry, front wrap cross carry (FWCC) style, basic back carry, ruck carry, high back carry, reinforced ruck carry (RRR / Pirate Carry), back wrap cross carry (BWCC), double hammock style, hip carry, and tandem carry. The long wrap-conversion shoulder straps are what make the advanced carries possible — most structured carriers simply don't have enough strap length or drape to achieve them.

What is a tandem carry and can I do it with the WrapMySol?

A tandem carry lets you carry two babies at the same time using one carrier. The older baby goes in a simple back carry with the straps crossed under their bottom, then brought forward and across your chest through your shoulder straps to form a front cross carry for the smaller baby in front. It ties off at baby's upper back and neck for support. Yes, the WrapMySol's long wrap straps are designed for this.

What is the reinforced ruck carry (RRR)?

Also called the Pirate Carry, the reinforced ruck carry uses a rucksack pass plus a horizontal reinforcing pass, tied at the shoulder. It adds a second layer of fabric across baby's back for extra support — great for longer carries and heavier toddlers. You can only do this carry with a carrier that has wrap-length straps, which is why most structured carriers can't do it.

What is the high back carry and is it safe for newborns?

The high back carry positions baby higher on your back so they can see over your shoulder. The WrapMySol's long straps give you the length to hip scoot baby up high and secure the carry properly. Yes, it can be done with newborns — Girasol has a dedicated tutorial for high back carry with a newborn.

What is the difference between the tie waist and buckle hip belt versions?

Same carrier, same panel, same long wrap straps — just a different waistband. The tie waist wraps around your waist and knots in front with no preset sizing, making it easy to share between caregivers of different sizes without readjusting. The buckle hip belt snaps on for faster on/off. You can purchase both waistbands and swap between them any time.

Can two caregivers of different sizes share the WrapMySol?

Yes, and the tie waist version is especially good for this. Because it's fabric that wraps and knots, it fits any body size without resizing a buckle. Both caregivers can put it on without touching the panel or strap adjustments — just retie the waist.

What is the difference between cross twill and diamond weave?

Cross twill is dense, supportive, and easy to use right out of the box with a natural diagonal stretch that helps the fabric conform to your body and your baby's shape. Great for all ages and excellent for toddler carrying. Diamond weave is softer from the start with no breaking in needed, more drape, and a cushioned feel that's particularly popular for newborn carrying. The Twilight, Paradise, and Rayos D'Oro colorways at Woven Baby are all cross twill.

Is the WrapMySol good for back carrying?

Yes. The long wrap straps give you far more back carry options than most structured carriers, including ruck, high back carry, reinforced ruck, and double hammock. If you're new to back carrying, start with the basic back carry or ruck tied in front and build from there.

Where can I find tutorials for the WrapMySol?

Girasol has an official instruction manual and video tutorials covering how to thread the waist belt, front carry apron style, front cross carry, simple back carry, high back carry with a newborn, and tandem carry. Links to all of these are here.

How do I wash the WrapMySol?

Machine wash warm in a laundry bag or pillowcase. Hang dry. Do not iron the shoulder straps or waist belt — heat can damage the fabric structure.

Where is the Girasol WrapMySol made?

Every part — the panel, the shoulder straps, the waistband fabric — is 100% cotton handwoven in Guatemala by artisan weavers. Girasol has been producing handwoven baby carriers for over 40 years. Because each piece is woven individually by hand, minor variations in color and pattern between carriers are completely normal. Every one is genuinely unique.

Is the WrapMySol worth it compared to other meh dai and half buckle baby carriers?

Most meh dais have a fixed panel with no sizing adjustments. Most half buckle baby carriers have a buckle waistband and that's it. The WrapMySol has three independent adjustments, an interchangeable waistband, long wrap-conversion straps for advanced carries, a two-layer handwoven panel, and it's made from the same fabric as Girasol's woven wraps. You're not buying a carrier for one stage — you're buying one that actually grows with your child.
